What she said:

What does work life balance look like to you?

Right now it looks like renegotiating what is really valuable and important to me and my work in the world. It looks like letting it be the evolving dance that it is and knowing that balance is an illusion, like perfection. If we buy into it too much, it works to keep us disempowered and internally oppressed.

How do you make time for self-care?

I don’t. I stopped obsessing over self reliance and needed to ditch self care for a while to renegotiate worn out patterns of hyper-individualized being. Right now, I just enjoy finding pleasure when I can. That’s the most radical act of self care I can imagine.

Mom guilt? It is a dirty word, but do you experience it and how do you deal?

Yes, of course I do. I’m a new-ish mom juggling life and work and self cultivation and relationship. I find my way moment to moment, knowing that the guilt will come and go. It’s not permanent and I don’t let it define my whole experience. It’s one aspect of my internal landscape and I can learn from it. Guilt can be there with many other experiences simultaneously.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Trust yourself and your path. It’s all going to be more than you imagined.
