It sounds crazy, but our bodies do amazing things and think about how in nature mammals consume their placenta. Placenta encapsulation put simply is the act of gently cleaning the placenta, cutting and dehydrating it until crisp, then grinding it into power and putting it into capsules. The theory is that the hormones and vitamins found in the placenta help moms heal and cope better after pregnancy when hormones get thrown out of balance and there is the stress of healing and taking care of a newborn. Tinctures and salves can also be made with the placenta.

April was trained through Full Circle Placenta Encapsulation (now IPPA) in 2013. She has certification in OSHA's Blood borne Pathogen and Infection Control as well as a California State Food Handlers License. Unlike many encapsulators, she encapsulates in her private kitchen. Basic Heated Method
Inspired by the Traditional Chinese Medicine method of prepartion involves cleaning the placenta, gently heating the placenta with lemon (optional) and then dehydrating the placenta before it is put into capsules. Using this preparation is thought to bring out the placentas healing and tonifying properties as well as warming and healing the uterus. (This is the most popular method of consumption).
FEE: $250-$275 (Depending on location or EDD)
The RAW inspired method of preparation skips the heating process altogether. The placenta is still sliced, dehydrated and ground into a powder for the capsules. Raw food activists believe that steaming the placenta destroys some of the essential nutrients. Using this option provides a burst of energy upfront and great hormone stabilization.
FEE: $250-$275 (Depending on location or EDD)
Placenta salve can be used to heal CSection incisions after the wound is closed. It can lessen scarring, itching and discomfort. It can also be used as soon as 3 days postpartum for hemorrhoids, perennial tearing, burns, diaper rash, eczema, sunburns and skin irritation. Safe for baby as long as baby has no skin allergies. Test a small area first. A Healing Salve is also available for purchase that does not contain placenta but still has many healing benefits, $15 2oz.
Fee: $25 (2oz), $35.00 (4oz)
Putting part of your placenta in tincture form is another way to stretch out its longevity. A small portion of placenta is added to >100 proof alchohol and set to ferment for 6 weeks. Some of the benefits include hormone stabilization in your postpartum cycles, less bleeding during those cycles, energy and for menopause years down the road. The female child can also benefit from placental tincture once she begins her menustration cycles.
FEE: $25.00 (6 oz)
